These are 1/4 wave at VHF, coil loaded at the base and about 20" tall. I measured both antennas below 1.5 SWR and there were no apparent problems with the coax. These did increase transmit range but actually reduced reception range significantly...* Nagoya UT-72G 20" 140-170MHz, 420-470MHz GMRS antenna, 3.5 dbi, has both in specified freq range * Tram 1181 19" 140-170/430-470 MHz, some said not so great for GMRS, and noisy at speed * Various GMRS/MURS antennas though NWR off top end of their vhf specificationElevation is good. Roof antenna is good. Mobile antenna can be good, but a UT-72 type antenna without a decent ground plane will not be good. I definitely have...Its a fine little antenna and it has many farz.. Just remember that it needs a ground-plane so slap it on a cookie-pan or something. Whatever antenna you use, if you're using more than just a couple of feet of antenna-cable, be sure to get GOOD quality/LOW loss cable.. TOM47..
